Jiulong County

Jiulong County, located in southwest of Mt.Gongga, southeast of Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, lies in the junction of Ya’an, Liangshan and Garze, with a total area of 6,770 square kilometers. It is 234km from Kangding, 280km from the Xichang Airport. Within the prefecture, Jiulong is the nearest county to railway and airport. Located at such a special junction area, Jiulong constitutes a crucial part in the culture and trade exchange among Sichuan, Yunnan and Tibet.  

Jiulong County

Jiulong climate is characterized by dry and chilly winter, cool and rainy summer and abundant rainfall. The diurnal temperature range is great, and the four seasons are not so distinct. The rainfall changes along with the change of altitude and season, with a short frost-free period, long duration of sunshine and abundant water resources. The annual total precipitation ranges from 750mm to 1400mm and the annual duration of sunshine is about 1900 hours.

Jiulong is inhabited primarily by Tibetan people, Yi people and Han, each accounting for nearly 1/3 of the whole, and 12 other ethnic minorities such as Hui, Miao, Bai, Yao, Qiang and Tujia People. For quite a long time all ethnic groups have been integrating into each other and developing jointly, forming a unique folk culture which represents both the landscape of Tibetan region and the unique originality and primitivism of Yi region.

Jiulong County

Jiulong is a kingdom of wild animals and plants and a treasury of biodiversity, with two provincial natural reserves. The forest coverage rate reaches 35.4%. There are nearly a hundred rare animals, such as giant panda, ailurus fulgens and Thorold's deer, and dozens of rare birds. There are also more than 360 kinds of rare wild medical materials, such as cordyceps sinensis, fritillary, lucid ganoderma, gastrodia and saussurea involucrata, and dozens of kinds of wild mushrooms such as matsutake and bolete.

Wuxu Lake, a very good summer resort and Jiulong natural scenic spots with primeval forest lie here. The whole resort covers an area of more than 400 square kilometers, with primeval forest, perennial snow mountains, mountains and meadows, plateau and lakes. There are ten big scenic spots, such as Niubizi Cave, Laorenfeng Stone Forest, Shennvjinai Peak, Karst Cave, hot spring and twelve sisters’ Peak and so on.

Jiulong County 

The Jiulong yak was known "the world’s best yak". It is renowned both at home and abroad for the big and strong body, tender and tasty meat, high productivity and good genetic performance. Jiulong pepper which has long been known as "Jiulong Pepper for Tribute" enjoys a widespread reputation for its bright color and good taste, thus the supply falling short of demand. There are also some agricultural products of high quality such as walnut, cocoon and tobacco, to be developed urgently.
