Kangding

Kangding, also known as Dartsedo in Tibetan, made it name internationally for its important location along the Ancient Tea-Horse Road. In the Qing Dynasty, it was known as China’s one of three busiest commerce and trade city together with Shanghai and Wuhan. Kangding is located in the eastern part of Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, 324 kilometers away from Chengdu to the east, covering an area of 10,160 square kilometers. The total population is 108,000, and Tibetan takes up 68.4% of minority’s population. After the founding of People Republic of China, a folk song named "Kangding Love Song" makes Kangding famous home and aboard.

Kangding

Situated in the transitional area between Sichuan Basin and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Kangding tilts downhill from the west to the east. In the eastern part, there are mostly mountain valleys above 5000 meters, while in the west hummocky plateau is most common. It should belong to subtropical climate according to its geographic latitude; however, it actually forms a unique plateau-continental monsoon climate because of the complex terrain.

The peculiar landforms in Kangding contribute to forming rich and colorful tourist attractions of great nature and culture, such as the national-level scenic spot of Mount Gongga, which mainly includes MugecuoLake, Mount Paoma, Tagong Grassland, Hailuogou National Glacier and Forest Park and Wuxuhai Lake.

Kangding

Moung Gongga is known as the "king of the of Sichuan mountains”. The word “gong" means snow in the Tibetan language, while "ga" means white. It is the peak of Hengduan Mountain Chain with an altitude of 7556 meters. The main peak and its surrounding mountains are covered by snow of ages that glittering in sunlight clouding in overcast sky. Gongga area has relatively complete modern glacier. The glacial movement has created a wonder of rare glaciers. There are five large glaciers, and the one in Hailuogou is 1080 meters high, 1100 meters wide, edging itself as China's largest icefall. Mugecuo Lake is a 4A state-level scenic area with plateau lakes, forests, alpine grassland, waterfalls, azalea forest and hot springs.

Except Gongga and Mugecuo, there are other renowned historical cultural sites in Kangding, for instance, Xinduqiao, Tagong Grassland and Gongga Monastery.
