Mingshan County

Mingshan District is governed by Ya'an City, 15 kilometers from the city, and has long been known as the "Hometown of Paradisiacal Tea". Lying in the southwest edge of Chengdu Plain, Mingshan covers a land of about 614 square kilometers, some 130 kilometers from Chengdu. The majority of Mingshan’s landform is hills and terraces, which account for 83.3% of its total area. The climate in Mingshan remains warm and humid all year round, with ample rainfall and long frost-free season. So Mingshan is called a "Green World" and "Natural Oxygen Bar" for the excellent ecosystem and thick green vegetation here.

Mt. Mengding in Mingshan is the place where Chinese tea culture originated since the Western Han Dynasty. The famous "Mt. Mengding Tea" firstly became royal tribute to central government in the Tang Dynasty, lasting for more than 1,200 years until Qing Dynasty. After the foundation of P.R. China, Mt. Mengding Tea was officially classified as National Gift Tea. The couplet of "Water in the Yangtze River excels" and "Tea on the Mengding Mountain tops" makes the good fame of Mt. Mengding Tea immensely spread. Mingshan District is also the National Planting Base for fine breeds and nursery stocks of tea trees. Across the whole area, tea plantations cover 4,000 hectares, where produces dry tea for more than 4,000 tons every year, including high-quality tea for about 700 tons.

Mingshan District is famous for Mt. Mengding, which is a National 4A tourist attraction and the provincial scenic spot. In the Xia Dynasty, DA Yu (first emperor of the Xia) passed by Mengding Mountain on his way controlling the flood, leaving the honorable title of "Royal Mountain".  Moreover, Mengding Mountain has long been recorded among voluminous historical books for producing the royal tribute of "Paradisiac Tea". The exquisite natural beauty and long-standing tea culture complement each other, attracting worldwide tourists. The 20,113-hectare sightseeing tea garden in Mingshan has already been declared as the National agricultural tourism demonstration site.
