Kham tours and Amdo tours

Kham tours and Amdo toursIn the western and northern part of Sichuan, there are not only stunning tourists' scenic spots like the last Shangri-la of Yading Nature Reserve and the fairyland of Jiuzhaigou Valley, but also two characteristic Tibetan tribes known as Kham Tibetan and Amdo Tibetan. Plus U-Tsang (central Tibet around Lhasa area), those three Tibetan tribes all use the same spelling but dialects are totally different, which makes them cannot understand each other orally. And it's exactly this variety in landscape and language that brings about special culture, tradition, folklore and religion to this region, making it an undiscovered land of mysteries.

This area has many records and glorious points in Tibetan history. Though it's not the power center of Tibet, more than half of the Dalai Lamas were from Kham and Amdo region; though Tibet's first monastery was not built here, it now boasts world's largest Buddhist institute--Seda Wuming Buddhist Institute, and because of historical and present reasons, Tibetan Buddhism is much more well preserved here than central Tibet. Though it's not the birthplace of Tibetan culture, it boasts world's longest epic--Epic of King Gesar that is longer and older than Homer's Epic; plus, in Dege Sutra Printing House, over 70% of Tibetan culture works have been inscribed and preserved here for nearly 400 years, making the house known as the Encyclopedia of Tibetan culture. The Bengkong (houses made by logs) style houses in Kham, particularly in Daofu, Ganzi and Dege counties are said to be the most beautiful houses in the whole Tibetan area; the shining ornaments in gold, silver, jade and beads on headdress and costume of Kham and Amdo people looks idiosyncratic; the boundless green pasture dotted with horses and yaks makes this region a land of festival in summer.
