Chengdu Panda Base Travel Guide

1. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding opens from 07:30-18:00, all the year round; you must enter before 17:00. (Ticket price: 58 yuan/person).

2. It is recommended to visit in the morning, because in the morning the temperature is relatively low, so that the panda activities are more frequent and it is more likely to see the panda eating and playing (feeding time: 9:00-11:00). In the afternoon, the temperature is higher, and the pandas are mostly sleeping. If you enter at 07:30 when the base is opened, it is suggested to start with the indoor sightseeing, because at noon and in the afternoon, it will be overcrowded in the afternoon.

3. Within the base, in addition to the giant pandas, lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, peacocks and cranes can also be seen. Sometimes lesser pandas will secretly go through fence on to the pavement, so be careful not to frighten them, and not feed them either.

4. In the base, visitors need to keep quiet and take pictures without flash, especially when shooting the panda cubs, as their eyes is very sensitive to light flash and it is likely to hurt them with the flash. Don't feed the animals, and don't pick bamboos of the base to feed the pandas either. Pandas’ daily food portion is arranged by the breeders. Never threw anything into the cages, or the giant pandas’ eating habits would be disturbed; and this is also to prevent the spread of diseases. If animals eat the wrong food, very serious consequences may occur. Don't leave the road, or the vegetation would be trampled. The base is non-smoking scenic area, so please don't smoke in there. Don't litter, as in addition to the giant pandas, the base is also home to other wild animals; if they eat the rubbish left by tourists, very serious consequences may occur.

5. Within the base there are now four souvenir shops. There are rich and colorful panda theme derivative products, and the giant panda albums and DVDS. If you are interested, this is a good place to buy panda related souvenirs. Near the grand door of the base there is a giant panda museum, there you can send a postcard postmarked with panda, from the post office "Panda State" in there. Also you can watch some documentary about pandas in the giant panda cinema, but for this you need to pay another 50 yuan.

6. There are a Chinese restaurant, a western restaurant and a coffee shop inside the base, among which the Chinese restaurant is located on the southeast bank of the swan lake, the only bamboo culture specialty restaurant in Chengdu, with its interior decoration and food, tableware embodying the Chinese giant panda culture; the western restaurant is located on the east bank, with 16 outdoor round tables, and over 20 seats of indoor booths, able to accommodate 200 people dining at the same time; the coffee shop is on the southern bank, with the entire shop of wooden structure, more than 10 outdoor seats and more than 10 indoor booths, able to accommodate 80 people dining at the same time.
