Mt. Siguniang Introduction

On the fragrant meadows, there are millennium hippophaes as well as fowls and beasts…" Such amazing pictures depict none other than Siguniang Mountain Scenic Spot which possesses the most abundant tourism resources, the most attractive natural landscapes, the most primitive natural sceneries and the most mysterious folk cultures in the world.

Mt. Siguniang

Siguniang Mountain is located in Xiaojin County of western Sichuan province, about 210 kilometers from Chengdu. The scenic spot consists of Siguniang Mountains, Shuangqiao Valley, Changping Valley and Haizi Valley, covering an area of 45- square kilometers. At an elevation of 6250 meters, the highest peak of Siguniang Mountains, known as "Queen of mountains in Sichuan", is the second highest peak in Sichuan after Mt. Gongga. Siguniang Mountain is an integrative scenic spot with multiple honors, which was rated as a National Nature Reserve in 1996, as an "AAAA" Tourist Attraction in 2001, as a National Geological Park in 2005 and as a World Natural Heritage of Giant Panda Habitat by UNESCO on July 12 of 2006. Over the years, Siguniang Mountain has attracted much attention from the visitors all over the world especially in Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia, and has been praised as "Oriental Holy Mountain and Outdoor Adventure Paradise" by the visitors both at home and abroad.

With special and complex geographic position and landform, Siguniang Mountain enjoys changeable climate and rich resources, and thus possesses diverse and unique landscapes, such as the millennium ancient glaciers, magnificent snow mountains, thick and verdant primitive forests, green alpine meadows, boundless alpine flowers, converging alpine lakes, splendid alpine waterfalls, winding and rushing streams… Furthermore, it has a variety of wild animals and plants. There are more than 1550 species of wild animals, including various first-grade State protected animals such as golden snub-nosed monkeys, white-lipped deer, snow panthers, gnus, lophophorus lhuysii, bonasa sewerzowis, gypaetus barbatus, turtledoves, etc as well as various second-grade State protected animals such as gyps himalayensis, blue sheep, pandas, Tragopan temminckiis, Tibetan eared pheasants, blood pheasants, etc. Besides, there are more than 1000 species of plants, including more than 800 species of higher plants and more than 200 species of lower and other plants. "one couldn't help marveling at the great sceneries everywhere", which enables Siguniang Mountain scenic spot to enjoy the reputation as the "Museum of Snow Mountain, Show Room of Ancient Trees, Exhibition Room of Plants and Ecological Garden of Animals".

In the scenic spot, there are 61 snow mountains at an elevation of over 5000 meters. The mountain peaks are covered with snow all year round. There are 25 alpine lakes running through the mountains and over 120 waterfalls in the mountains. The steep and magnificent peaks as well as the supernatural landforms make the scenic spot a holy land for visitors, a heaven for mountaineers, a hot land for self-drivers, a maze for hikers, a paradise for photographers and a pure land for hermits. Over the recent years, the outdoor activities in China have acquired vigorous development. As the highlights and focuses of the outdoor activities, climbing and exploration create a good atmosphere to build Siguniang Mountain scenic spot into a high-quality "outdoor base." In October of 2008, Siguniang Mountain Administration set up an outdoor management center, and established an outdoor recreation base in Siguniang Mountain Scenic Spot based on the scientific and reasonable plan. With the base and management center as the links, the outdoor recreational sports to be developed in Siguniang Mountain Scenic Spot includes mountaineering, climbing, drifting, gliding, water skiing, grass skiing, ice climbing, jungle walking, hiking, orienteering, snowboarding and mountain biking, etc. The superior resources and location peculiar to the scenic spot provide a broad space for outdoor enthusiasts to do outdoor activities.
