Day 2: Lhasa City Tour

Schedule Today: After breakfast in the hotel, we leave for the landmark of Lhasa - the Potala Palace, the palace was built in the 7th century by the King Songtsanganpo to welcome his wife Princess Wenchen from the Tang Dynasty, later it became the winter palace for the Dalai Lamas when the Great 5th Dalai Lama moved his residence here. Inside the palace are countless precious treasures that cannot be valued by money. In the afternoon, we will visit the Johkang Temple also built in the 7th century, this is the first temple in Tibet and also the pilgrim center of Tibet Buddhism, around the Johkang Temple is the bustling Barkhor Street with pilgrims from all over Tibet. It is exactly because of this Tibetan quarter - Johkang Temple and Barkhor Street, the city name of Lhasa (means “land of Buddha”) came from.

Day 3: Lhasa City Tour

Schedule Today: After breakfast in the hotel, drive 20 minutes to the Drepung Monastery in the western suburb of Lhasa. This monastery was built in the 15th century by the Yellow Sect of Tibetan Buddhism; it was the largest monastery in Tibet with monks’ population more than 10000 at its heyday. Also, it served as the winter palace for the Dalai Lama first to the fifth until the Fifth Dalai Lama moved its residence to the Potala Palace. In the afternoon, we are going to visit the Sera Monastery on the northern edge of Lhasa city, this 600 hundreds old monastery though is not as large as the Drepung Monastery, yet its lively sutra scripture debating among the monks in the afternoon makes it distinctive. The interesting and exaggerating expressions and movements by the monks when they debate make this visit a unique experience.
