Day 1: Chengdu - Ya'an - Moxi Ancient Town

Highlights: Tibetan Tea Museum, Luding Bridge, Moxi Ancient Town

Schedule Today: In the morning, your guide and driver will pick you up at the hotel lobby in Chengdu and then start our journey west. You will firstly reach Ya'an city that is located in the transition section of the Han ethic culture and the Tibetan culture. It is known for its tea industry for centuries as the starting point of Sichuan - Tibet Ancient Tea Horse Road. Now it is still an important city to produce tea in China. Here we will visit Tibetan Tea Museum which exhibits many relics that comprehensively shows how significant the tea is to both Chinese and Tibetan people. The route of the Ancient Tea Horse Road is very much the same like today's Sichuan - Tibet Highway, so it's also a good and useful site for you to know better of our upcoming trip later.  Afterwards, drive to Luding County that got its name from the well - known Luding Bridge. It is an important bridge that connects the Tibet region with Chinese region. The battle that the Red Army took the bridge from the enemies makes it more famous. Then, transfer to beautiful and quiet Moxi Ancient Town which is located in the foot of Mount Gongga. It is the first town in the Tibetan region that the Red Armies entered during the Long March period. There are still some relics left today including a catholic church worthy of visit.

Day 2: Hailuogou  -  Kangding  -  Xinduqiao

Highlights:Hailuogou National Glacier Park, Xinduqiao Town

Schedule Today:After breakfast, your guide and driver will transfer you to visit Hailuogou National Glacier Park. Situated on the east slope of the Gongga Mountain on the Qinghai - Tibet Plateau, the Hailuogou Glacier Forest Park is famous for snow - clad mountains, clouds, glaciers, forests, hot springs, sunlight and red rocks. Also it is known for the Tibetan and Yi corridor, ancient south Silk Road and Long March culture. Afterwards, drive to Xinduqiao via Kangding City. You will stop somewhere to overlook Gongga Montain (Mingya Konka), the King of the mountains in Sichuan. With 7556 meters above the sea level, it is the highest mountain in Sichuan and once selected as the 2nd most beautiful mountain in China by the Chinese National Geography. Finally, our day trip ends at Xinduqiao Town, the paradise of photography. Overnight in Xinduqiao Town.

Day 3: Xinduqiao - Shangrila Town

Highlights: beautiful scenery along the way, Litang Monastery

Schedule Today: Get up early to see beautiful sunrise over the grassland. After breakfast, we move towards the Shangrila Town from Xinduqiao (about 7 hrs.). After passing Yajiang County and some other beautiful mountains and nomadic areas, then you will reach Litang County, the highest county in the world and also the hometown of the 7th and 10th Dalai Lama. Go to visit Litang Monastery, which is also called Ganden Thubchen Choekhorling Monastery. It is the oldest and biggest Gebugpa sect in Kham area. Afterwards, continue driving to Shangrila Town. Today you will spend a long time on car, but the scenery along the road pays off.

Day 4: Yading Nature Reserve

Highlights: Yading Nature Reserve

Schedule Today: Today you will spend whole day in Yading Nature Reserve. It consists of Snow Mountains, rivers, lakes and alpine meadow. There are three sacred mountains for Tibetan people - - - Mount Xiannairi, Mount Yang Maiyong and Mount Xianuo Dorji. Besides the mountains, there are some other famous scenic spot such as Pearl Lake, Luorong Pasture and so on. In the spring and summer, you can enjoy beautiful alpine flower blooming everywhere, and in the autumn, the golden leaves will make it prettier.

Day 5: Shangrila Town -  Batang - Mangkang 

Highlights: beautiful sceneries en route

Schedule Today: In the morning, head to Mangkang County from Shangrila Town (503km). You will officially arrive into Tibet Autonomous Region by passing the border between Sichuan and TAR. You will pass the regions where Jinsha River, Lancang River and Nu River flow paralleled. All the water of the three rivers is coming from Tanggula Mountains. Then continue your trip to Mangkang. It is located in the intersection of Sichuan - Tibet highway and Yunnan - Tibet highway. Arrive there around 7 PM.

Day 6: Mangkang - Bangda - Basu

Highlights: Yela Mountain (Nu River Mountain), Seventy - two Bends

Schedule Today: In the morning after breakfast, start driving to Basu. You will firstly pass some nice pasture areas in eastern Tibet. Thousands of yaks, horses, sheep and other wild life live in the boundless grassland. Then move to Yela Mountain, which is also called Nu River Mountain. It is the source of Nu River. On the shore of the mountain, you can see Seventy - two Bends. The zigzag road looks extraordinary.

Day 7: Basu - Ranwu Lake - Midui Glacier - Bomi

Highlights: Ranwu Lake, Midui Glacier,

Schedule today: In the morning, you will move to Ranwu Lake, which was formed by the blocking of rivers, the main one is Parlongzangbu, by debris from landsides, glaciers, and natural walls. Then move to Midui Glacier. It is a glacier with the lowest altitude in the world. And it is also one of the most beautiful glaciers in the world. After visit, move towards Bomi

Day 8: Bomi - Lulang - Nyingchi

Highlights: River Yarlung Tsangpo, Lulang Forest, Sejila Mountain Pass

Schedule Today: Yarlung Tsangpo is the longest river of Tibet. This morning, you will move to the canyon area of River Yarlung Trangpo, where looks like a paradise. You can see virgin forests, raging torrent, notorious rapids, and gushing waterfalls here. Then move to Lulang Forests. Lulang means Dragon King Valley in Tibetan. Surrounded by the Snow Mountains, dense bushes and virgin forests, the Lulang Forest has poetic and picturesque views. After visit, you will continue move to Nyingchi. You will have a short stop on Sejila Mountain Pass where you can view the holy Mountain of Nankabawa if weather permits.

Day 9: Nyingchi - Basumtso Lake - Lhasa

Highlights: Nyamg River, Bamtso Lake

Schedule Today: Today is our last day on the highway before reaching the holy city of Lhasa. You will drive along with Niyang River, the biggest tributary of Yarlung Tsangpo River. Firstly you will visit Basumtso Lake by a detour. It is the largest lake in eastern Tibet, also called Cuogao Lake, meaning the green water. Then you will pass Mila Pass. This is the last mountain pass of this trip then you will arrive at Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet.

Day 10: Lhasa city tour

Highlights: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street

Schedule Today: In the morning, your guide and driver will transfer you to Potala Palace. It was the residence of the Dalai Lama. It is the highest palace in the world, and the landmark and the symbol of Tibet, a must - see place in Tibet. Then you will visit the Jokhang Temple. It was founded by the King Songtsen Gampo, and it has been the center of Buddhist pilgrimage for centuries. You can see the statue of Buddha Shakyamuni at the age of twelve. After visit, go to the Barkhor Street. It is the oldest street in Lhasa with colorful Tibetan features.

Day 11: Lhasa city tour

Highlights: Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery

Schedule Today: In the morning, you will go to visit Drepung Monastery. It is regarded as one of the "Three Great Tibetan Monasteries" together with Ganden Monastery and Sera Monastery.  It used to the largest one with over 5 thousand monks lived here; also it was the winter palace for the Dalai Lama until the 5th Dalai Lama moved to the Potala Palace. In the afternoon, go to visit the Sera Monastery. It preserves thousands of Buddha statues, many of which were brought in Lhasa from India and inner China in ancient times. The treasures in the monastery are the image of gilded Chenrezi and the Bodhisattva of Compassion. The highlight here is to see the sutra debating among monks each afternoon except Saturday.

Day 12: Lhasa Departure

Schedule Today: Today your guide and driver will transfer you to your airport, and your trip will end up with sweet memories.
